Dubai Butterfly Garden: A Magical World of Fluttering Wings

Dubai Butterfly Garden is a serene paradise featuring over 15,000 butterflies across 10 climate-controlled domes. Located next to the Dubai Miracle Garden, it offers a unique, educational, and visually stunning experience for all ages. Walk among fluttering wings, learn about butterfly life cycles, and immerse yourself in one of Dubai’s most enchanting attractions.1

Dubai Butterfly Garden opened in 2015 and is the world’s largest indoor butterfly garden, home to over 15,000 butterflies from more than 50 beautiful and colorful species. 1

The garden covers about 6,673 square meters and features 10 large climate-controlled domes that create a perfect environment for butterflies to live and fly freely all year round. 2

Each dome is filled with flowering plants, shrubs, and water features, helping create a peaceful space for butterflies to thrive and visitors to enjoy the natural beauty around them. 3

The garden stays at a cool temperature between 18 to 25 degrees Celsius, making it comfortable for butterflies and enjoyable for guests, even during the hot Dubai weather.4

Visitors can see the full butterfly life cycle, from egg to caterpillar, then pupa, and finally a fully grown butterfly, offering an educational and fun experience for all ages.

In Dome 2, there is a koi fish pond where guests can relax and watch colorful koi swimming in the water, adding to the peaceful atmosphere of the garden. 5

Butterflies are fed using 15 food stations spread across the domes, filled with sweet fruits like mango, pineapple, and watermelon to keep the butterflies healthy and active.6

Educational displays inside the garden explain butterfly species, their habits, and the importance of protecting their natural homes, making it a great place to learn while having fun. 7

Dubai Butterfly Garden is located next to the famous Miracle Garden in Al Barsha South, making it easy for visitors to explore both attractions on the same visit.8

Some of the butterfly species you’ll find include the Monarch, Red Rim, Owl Butterfly, and Tailed Jay, each known for their special patterns and vibrant wing colors.

Nectar-rich plants are grown inside the domes to give butterflies a natural food source, helping them live longer and supporting their normal behaviors like feeding and flying. 9

Special misting systems and gentle fountains keep the garden humid and fresh, which is very important for the butterflies’ health and for keeping the flowers looking beautiful. 10

Visitors are welcome to walk freely among the butterflies and even gently hold them if one lands, giving a hands-on and magical experience for children and adults alike.11

No outside food or drinks are allowed in the garden to make sure the butterflies stay safe and are not harmed by unwanted bugs or animals attracted to food. 12

The garden is open year-round and is completely indoors, so guests can visit during any season, rain or shine, without worrying about the outside temperature or weather.

There are informative workshops and activities held inside the garden for school trips, families, and tourists to teach them about butterflies and their role in the natural world.13

Art pieces made from naturally extinct butterflies are displayed in the gallery, showing their beauty and adding a creative, respectful way to preserve them without harming living insects. 14

The garden uses local plants whenever possible to support Dubai’s native butterfly species and encourage people to grow butterfly-friendly gardens at home using safe and natural practices.15

Dubai Butterfly Garden helps protect butterflies by offering a safe, clean space where they can breed and live, while also raising awareness about their importance in nature and gardening. 16

It’s a calm, colorful place where families, nature lovers, and tourists can enjoy seeing butterflies up close, take lovely photos, and learn about how to care for nature better.17
